Discrepancy

                                                             DISCREPANCY

Note: FULL FORMS ARE BELOW THE INFORMATION

Definition

Inconsistency or some mismatch or deviation from a reference data in clinical study

Discrepancy can be

DATA-----inaccurate, incomplete, illogical, missing or not in accordance with study protocol specification

Generation:

Discrepancies occurs many sources

  • Where there is an error in data entry
  • Investigator reports some incorrect values ( example: Lab values)
Examples:  Empty fields
                   Incorrect range
                   Data not in logical sequence
                   Any missing visit or pages
Lab values not in normal range
                   Inclusion/Exclusion criteria not met etc.....

Identification of Discrepancies

Identification of Discrepancies ===> 1) Done through manual checks

TWO(2) Kinds of Discrepancies

1) System generated                                                                   2) User generated

Programmed identified with help of                                               Cannot be programmed identified
in built edit checks                                                                           during manual review
eg: Pregnancy box                                                                           eg: reconciliation of safety data
      says "YES" Gender
      says "NO"

Resolution

Resolution to a query whether paper or EDC can be

  • Correction to the data
  • A conformation the data is not available
  • A note that although the triggers a discrepancy, that data really is correct as its stands

clinical data management in Clinical research

Certainly! Below is an expanded and detailed discussion on clinical data management (CDM) that would cover approximately. --- # Clinical Data Management (CDM) in Clinical Research ## Introduction Clinical Data Management (CDM) is an integral part of the clinical research process, focusing on the collection, cleaning, and management of data generated during clinical trials. The primary objective is to ensure that data is accurate, complete, and reliable, supporting robust conclusions and regulatory submissions. This document provides a comprehensive overview of CDM, including its key components, tools, regulatory and ethical considerations, challenges, and future trends. ## Key Components of Clinical Data Management ### 1. Study Protocol Development The study protocol is the cornerstone of any clinical trial, outlining the study’s objectives, design, methodology, and statistical considerations.  #### Protocol Design - **Objective Setting**: Clearly defining the research questi...

Difference between central lab and Local Lab

In the context of clinical trials, both central laboratories (central labs) and local laboratories (local labs) play essential roles in processing and analyzing biological samples. However, they differ significantly in their operations, advantages, and applications. Here’s a detailed comparison: ### Central Laboratory **Definition:** A central laboratory is a large, centralized facility that processes and analyzes samples from multiple sites participating in a clinical trial. These labs are usually equipped with advanced technology and staffed by highly trained personnel. **Key Characteristics:** - **Standardization:** Central labs offer standardized procedures and protocols, ensuring consistent and uniform testing across all samples. - **Quality Control:** They maintain stringent quality control measures, often accredited by recognized bodies (e.g., CAP, CLIA). - **Advanced Technology:** Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and specialized assays, central labs can perform a w...

study start up

STUDY START UP/STUDY SET UP: eCRF(case report form): The case report form is a printed or electronic questionnaire for collecting data from study participants and reporting it to trial sponsors. The document is created specifically for each research project in accordance with the trial protocol, and recommendations of the Clinical Data Acquisitions Standards Harmonization (CDASH). They are developed by Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium to streamline industry-wide data exchange. Say, CDASH dictates dd/mm/yy format for collecting dates. (Read our article on CDISC standards to learn more.) Well-designed case report forms collect only data necessary for the particular study avoiding any redundancy. The fields to be filled in may include demographics (age, gender), basic measurements (height, weight), vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, etc.) captured at various time points, lab exams, medical history, adverse events, and more, based on the research requirements....
